Proposed camp in Lahaina no hit with neighbors

KAHULUI – The Ho‘omoana Foundation is proposing to build a new campground facility in Lahaina as a creative way to tackle the island’s growing homeless population, but neighbors opposed to the project say it threatens their safety and property values.

An Application for a special management area use permit for the Kauaula Campgrounds project is scheduled to be heard by the Maui Planning Commission at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Kalana Pakui Building in Wailuku. If the commission approves, the project would move forward.
